Timberdog, I have read your postings directed at Gyr@onetel a couple of weeks ago.I am privy to probably more info than shown on this forum and therefore post with integrity.
The breeder in question breeds some of the finest quality falcons in the UK,probably in the entire world if the truth be told, so when he gets someone asking bizarre questions he is understandably cautious.
I am aware of the conversation that took place and can only suggest that you are talking to a breeder with immense global recognition.
Some of the people who contact this breeder by phone,e-mail etc, don't have the capability of polishing this mans boots, never mind acquiring a Falcon from him.
I suggest that potential buyers treat him with some respect in future, his birds are probabably he best the UK has to offer.

hiya,
I've talked to mark rob, he's an ok guy, happy to help me out with my gyr/saker. He does pride himself in his birds I can say lol, but you should see the pics of his latest young! Wow! yeah, he has the best (or pretty good lol)birds, the best (well, pretty good) facilities and a loada knowlage on AI etc, but he still took time to help me out, sort me with a bird and offer to deliver it to my house! If that aint kind lol, I dont know what is!
Also, he doesnt answer many e-mails, it took him a month to get back to me.
i know a guy who breeds dogs and loads of them he makes a living from dogs, even though he breeds all these dogs he hasnt got a clue how to trane them , the same thing is going on in the bop world , to be a good falconer you have to be out there doing it one man and his bird or should i say one man and his dog , its the same meat difrent gravy , just because somone has got the funds to set up a breeding project in a big way by all means dosnt qualify them to be one of the best in the uk ! in all honestly i would rather buy my birds from a small time breeder with no rep rather than give my cash to a big time bop peddeler ! thats the thing with the bop scene in the uk , its getting run buy folk who have more intrest in how much cash they can make outa breeding and selling bop , other than the birds them selves, you just need to look at the likes of ray turner and see it for yoursel , this guy has no intrest in flying bop hes just in it for the cash as he has said ..................

Whilst i would agree with a percentage of what you said Jay, i dont agree that folks make a mint outta breeding birds and there are still some of us who breed from birds not just to produce a monitary item, but because we have flown and enjoyed that birds company over several seasons and now want to produce another generation.
I tend to keep my youngsters flying them for a few months before deciding whether i want to keep them? it is my way of trying to keep the best genetic material back.
As for Wealthy breeders? with the poss exception of two people most of the breeders i know and am friendly with earn slightly less than a Brick layer per year, but work prob double the hours!
Ask Mr Robb where he lived when he was setting up his project?
quick Clues: Gypsies live in em, You can tow one behind your car?
Answers on a postcard please....
And that was for a long time, not a weekend, he made sacrifices like lots have to.
Dont diss the breeders Mate, yes there are some unscrupulouse people out there, but most are certainly not in it for the money!
Without UK raptor propogation, we all would have to shell out much more and learn much less.
The Laws of supply and demand will usually level out the field, anyway!

I think we miss the point it isn't about money or even caravans and having hard times at the outset of any business whilst building a (REPUTATION).
I do not care how big or how good the birds are good business ethics are golden (The customer is always right).
The other good business ethic having spent some time around this environment is always courteous towards a potential client i would say this is good foundation for future business even if you have a good business today tomorrow you may have wanted that one customer you treated with contempt when things are not so good!!
But anyway M.Robb obviously has a healthy business and good luck to him but i wouldn't conduct myself in the same way within business circles.
I have no grudge merely pointing out no matter how could his birds are their may be a day when he wants Mr Smalls of this world and people would be less incline to help or give over business when treated in an unprofessional way.

I agree whole heartedly, there is NO REASON to be rude to customers, anyone in business should always treat the next bloke as his potential next BIGGEST customer.

is this not in itself an answer...... just 1 unhappy.potential customer-enquirer...has raised a debate not doing the individual in question and favors....
when all the person had to do is be polite about it, and this topic would never have happened?
i have to deal everyday with people i just cant stand....and i know if i was rude to them my boss would go nuts !!

varmit you said (I tend to keep my youngsters flying them for a few months before deciding whether i want to keep them? it is my way of trying to keep the best genetic material back. ) so what your realy doing is keeping back the good stuff and selling the **** ........... this is why i advise folk to buy there bird off of the small time breeders atlest you have a chance of getting a good bird , not a bird that has been tryd and tested and proven no good , lol you should have thought before you made that post varmit ................

Tell you what Jay, I'm flying one of Varmints birds that he owned for a couple of years and if IT'S rubbish I cant wait to fly a good one!!
The good ones must fly at the speed of light, skin and gut their own kills, grease their own jesses and **** gold bars!! pmsl!!

Surely is business more enjoyable if you are not only courteous and polite to customers, potential customers, but also trades people, even competitors as this will not only make your life better, it will also make business easier & more enjoyable
