We are in the prosses of designing a hawk and combinded dog box that will fit nicely into most vehicle so that it maybe kept as a of the shelf item.

Is there any special requirements that we should take into account.

Looks like I can see an escape hatch for the dog but is there provision to get the bird out the back of the box too? Im funny about this safety point having watched a rear end crash pin 2 dogs into a car and they were trapped as there was no front way to release them.

Here is a consideration for problems with boxes I have found in the past.

If would be far better to make a hole at the bottom to allow water and debris out easier, that is tight to an edge or even better remove a corner?

There will always be a problem with box designs. By putting a hole in the very bottom of the box, makes the box slightly unstable on the floor when the bung is fitted and from past experience I have found that bungs are easily knocked off. Cutting a corner is not a option. The drainage hole in the back of the box is to allow the water and debris out and is fitted as close to the corner as possible.

We are open to suggestions to help improve our boxes. But wouldn't it be great to have a self clean box.

How about a hole in the bottom with a plug that fits from the inside and is flush with the base? That way it's balance wouldn't be compromised and it would allow easy cleaning?

That's one to think about. With a plug fitted in the rear of the box and not on the inside the bung and your finger are not going to get covered in mute only a thought.

Untill you invent the self cleaning box, why not have the bung in the top, then turn it upside down when cleaning? :yawinkle:

Hi Mate, Looks a good combined box and a very good idea, for cleaning purposes have you thought of make the front doors lower down to the base of the box it can then be easier for cleaning out. I am interested to know the dimensions of both sides of the box, cos this would differ for different breeds of dogs and birds. Cracking idea though.

I am make these to customer specifications and the dimensions depend on the current vehicle you will be driving this is a photo of the completed box for Gary Barbour. The Boxe comes complete with rear escape hatches for both the dog and hawk, and is also fitted with a 75mm top storage tray.

Joe

It depends on the size of the box you require, A basic box without escape hatches and top storage tray start at around £275.00.
