hi sog
you,ve also got to think of their breeding.most eagles only hav 1-2 chicks and most breed when mature i.e 5-8 yrs old thats a long time to wait for any breeder, wether for profit or for conservation :)

Not to mention the fact that very few people either have the space, time and knowledge to breed them either.
How many Golden Eagles were bred in captivity in the uk up to 1999?
Same with all other species with poss exception of Tawnies etc.
Which is why they are much cheaper
hell thats a question.......... what is'nt over priced i'd say !!.....

Harris Hawks, Male Hybrid falcons? How cheap do you want them to be?
I bought a fhh in 1969 for £35 and started work at £10 per week. Currently that type of job would start at £350. Make them any cheaper and you could give them away in a Lucky Bag :D
I just wanted your views ,hope to get one my self this year (eagle)

Eagles are awesome, but I don't see the point in haviing them unless you got the right area and quarry for them. Hunting rabbits with a Goldie is like deer hunting with a Howitzer-fun but a bit excessive
I totally agree Mr Fong, but once you have owned/hunted/played with a eagle no other BOP seems to have the same effect, even the scars go deeper .

Welcome Sog, where you from and what do you fly?
I think there are not expensive enough! Otherwise every poser would want to get one and they are NOT to be taken to be safe birds as they will cause real bad damage, if flown in the correct state, Yarak!
HI Hawkmaster, i have owned/hunted eagles for 16 odd years now (in Yarak) not once has any one been injured, apart from me (young bird/wind)why don't "we" make it law to have 3rd party insurance for eagles,i have one.I'll get back to you soon.

Hiya,
I was told eagles where expensive to stop idiots buyin em and bringing falconry into disrepute. Mind you, some rich idiots still get em lol, just to look good!
My dream is to own a golden eagle one day, go hunting on horseback and all that. Prob is, I dont think I'l grow any more, so a resonable sized eagle will be able to take me flying!
Are there any Harpy eagles in the UK at this time? I'm not sure, lets see what other ppl think!

hh are ten a peny here in the uk, and i love em , the more there is the cheeper they get, the cheaper they get , the more folk can aford them . the more folk can aford them , the more there is , the more ther is , the more falconers we have here in the uk , the more falconers we have here in the uk , the more support we have when the anties come for our sport , falconry is a sport not a way to make mony , thats the problem with humans , we are like magpies , enything that looks good new and shiney they steal it , !! word to the wise , dont put up with this **** eny more , if your a true falconer then monys wont be no object as for you make you mony other ways , ie like having a job ,if you was going to but a dog would you buy it from the local pupy farm or would you buy it from the small holder with a litter of pups for sale ? i would buy it from the small holder atleast they have the time to care and arnt breeding purly for cash even though what ever cash they make, is no doubt seen as a boost to everyday living , bottom line is theres to meny bop peddelers in this country, but it will change come time ............
No, don't confused he is not in the USA, unless of course he is using a BT account to connect to the net?

Hi Varmint , unfortunately breeders have made a rod for their own back! by this I eman they/ you have worked really hard over the years and just because there are so many birds on the market(supply & demand drive prices) has very little to do with investment in time/ money and effort involved in breding BOP. In short you are victim of your own success. I remember when folk used fall over themselves to buy a Harris for £2000 & it wasn't that long ago. With all the hassle you guys get I would not balme you to stop breeding for a few years, hike the prices to what you should be getting. just my thoughts as somone whom tries to breed!
all the best
