Hi, first class job, very neat, nice perch, and more than reasonable prices. I have seen a set like those shown offered at £170.

Agreed Stuart, i purchase at car boot sales and convert them myself, but with the quality and prices illustrated, i wonder if its worth the bother.

Roy your scales are quiet impressive

Nice to see proper balance scales for a change

I recon I could do a tidier conversion by a mile than the ones shown but not for any where near the price you sell them for

Iv bought scales in the past for £50 that were unconverted so just don't know how you do it lol

Good work and all the best

Barry
30-01-2012, 07:51 PM
I have a couple of your large sets Roy and they perform perfectly with very hard use. They are durable and accurate. However, I really do still need a set considerably bigger. Based on those you call large, I could use a set of extra extra large. What's the chances?
Barry.

1Red12
30-01-2012, 09:22 PM
Hi Barry, as far as I know the largest scales available are "Avery" rated at 28lb. These can be identified by a "cross member" in the balance fulcrum, shown in the pic. This pic was taken from a set which has not yet been converted. If you think they may be suitable I can do them no probs. ( If you are unsure sizewise I could recomend 2 eagle falconers who have these sized scales for their eagles, you could ask their comments)
Hope this helps
Best Regards
Roy

just how big are your Bass then ? :-)

Now then Arthur, I think you are just "Spinning " me on, but I wont take the "Bait". In fact you are just stuck in the "Mud" and "Floundering". I think its time we met at some "Plaice" and got our "Tackle" out and compare our "Leads"

Check this out Roy http://falconryforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=91815 I had these ordered in 2010 but despite many promises they never materialised. I have some like you pictured which are great and weigh eagles fine, but with an eagle on, they're not heavy enough to be as stable as I'd like.

I have a similar problem Barry. I am considering fixing them to a 3/4 ply wooden base about 2 foot square, to see if that provides a bit of stability.

Atb, Stewart.

1Red12
30-01-2012, 11:44 PM
Thats the easiest way out Stewart, a 2ft square thick sheet of ply. Place the scales in the middle, screw 2 eyes each side of the scales into the wood, pass a cable tie through the eyes over the body of the scales, but of course under the fulcrum arms.

I was going to be a smar ass, I was going to drill into the base at each end at an angle, then screw the base to the ply,

I've thought about the 'added base' option, but the problem is I spend quite a number of weeks away from home with the Eagles, and travelling with a set of scales on a 2' square base is going to be a pain to pack in the vehicle. I just want a nice heavy, robust, stable set of counter balance scales, which, like my eagles, will probably outlive me!

Barry,

One option might be to drill and tap the base, screw in threaded rod, and drill the wooden base to accept the rod. The scales could be attached using wing nuts. The board could be raised with feet or edging fitted underneath, this would prevent the wingnuts fouling on the surface, and would allow the scales to be removed easily for transport.
