With all this talk of sucess I would like to balance things out a bit. I have once watched my little male hawk ride for a long way on the back of a MASSIVE hare (they are always massive arn't they), and as with all things hawky my mentor topped it by telling me a story about a cast of Harris Hawks he was flying (3 to be exact) that latched onto a Muntjack deer and promptly disappeared into a forest    How cool is that 8) 8) 8) What is the (best) worst hunting story about lost game out there people???

A friend of mine and a few others on here, Mark Wills, lives on Dartmoor and has a Female Harris Hawk, that has flown and even taken down a small roe deer or two.

Don't ya just love the Harris.....completely, stupidly, total commitment nutters.  What the hell is going through their crazy little heads at the moment of contact?? I would sell my soul for a chance to be there when they brought down that Roe hawkmaster. That would be a feast of monumental proportions. Got to be a spit roast and a flaggen or two of beer.   Please keep em coming folks.

My first RT was following me around the ranch chasing Jack rabbits when she peeled off the top of a tree and went into a steep glide towards the ground. I and several otheres where only about 20 yards from her when she went down so we rushed over there and...........nothing.....I spent the next three days with four people combing the area...She had just dissapeared. There are two scenarios I can think of. 1. She chased a jack long distance and caught it, therfore no need to come to me. 2. She was caught by something such as a Bobcat(common around our ranch). I won't include the thought that she just flew off as she was the most well behaved bird I have had. Followed like a dream...

Mine took an owl as well (unharmed of course) but I am pretty sure thats quite common.

My MHH has caught and eaten a little owl and a Female Goshawk I was flying for someone else two seasons ago caught a Tawny Owl, which luckily was uninjured.

The owl we caught pretended to be dead and so I put it in my pocket and headed home. I had recently found a dead sparrowhawk (tiercel) and had put it in for stuffing   so I thought a tawny would be a nice addition (someone tell me this is not illegal please :?: :?: ) to the collection (I found a stoat on sat so I am gonna get this done as well). Anyway when I went to take it out, the bloody thing grabbed my hand and developed sticky foot. It took ages and much hilarity from the builders on the site next to my cottage before it would let go :D :D I heard it hooting about 20 minutes after dusk so it was relatively unscathed.

hehe, good stories.

Benc its perfectly legal to stuff an animal you find dead, as long as it died of natural causes and you didn't shoot it.

I may be wrong, but I am fairly sure you still have to 'register' the bird in some way.

Lucky.

Can't even posess a feather from a raptor in the US without a permit such as a falconry license. The only way to stuff one here is for a museum or a science center.

Iamtheweasel...tough old laws in the great US of A, but to be honest I don't mind any laws like that, I havn't anything to hide. :P :P :P I have two dead sparrowhawks one I found on the road the other flew into my bosses window at literally break neck speed!!! If I do register them who would it be with?? And as I wish to give one away as a present (to my mentor) do I have to declare it to DEFRA???? A little of topic I know but there you are.

I have got many wings and tails this way for spars. But never registered them.

I'm not sure you need paperwork for feathers anymore
