Has any one tried hawking from a small boat?
We have many small creeks here that are just deep enough to float a flat bottom boat and hold a lot of duck. Same idea as float hunting with a gun. The only draw back I can see is that sitting in the stream bed you will have to stand up to see the flight in some spots, or pick your flights carefully.

Many moons ago in a country far far away
We used to hunt waders form a boat. the hardest part of it was keeping the boat up with the tiercel as he put in stoops, so that after a bind he could make it back to the boat. otherwise.. we got wet.
not a wise thing to do over salt water given the dangers.!
I know a lot of birds that after landing in the sea have died soon after.
i assume due to the salt intake
I would imagine hunting ducks surrounded in water will be a bit of a rat hunt with birds being hit, then diving, prefering to drown rather than face you & a raptor

LOL I am not much of a fisherman, I don't imagine the minnows and crayfish task as good as bunnys or ducks. Waters a bit shallow too..under ft in most places, more of a ditch. Not sure how you'ed convince a Osprey to carry back to the boat instead of across the pond????:goodman:
I see the point about the ducks going under but as mentioned above very shallow in most places, figured to use the boat for the stealthy approach. There are a lot of fowl that use the surrounding fields too, can't get close enough on foot, so thought maybe the boat would work???

Hi
I had an osprey last year .
It was a large , calm bird.
I kept it for 3 month and let it go
the next year I got another old age osprey kept it for a week and let it go
I think they are a litle to slow to catch ducks !!
I have watch one osprey dive on a cormorant and miss it by an inch
I usualy get an osprey every year
mostley bring them at about 3weeks old
I also live near islands in the sea and these islands are full of birds but I could find the right bird to hunt with
What are u flying know?
