Hi everyone i have just received my new hood i was just wondering whether you are supposed to treat them with anything to keep them in good condition?. I wouldnt of thought you could put anything on the inside of the hood because of the feathers on the birds head. or are you supposed to just leave them. anybody got any views on the matter. cheers KEV.

Hi

The best way to look after a hood is to buy a hood block of the relevant size and keep it on that when not in use. Use a baby wipe once a week to clean the out side and inside of the hood and also any grime and old meat that might come off the Raptors gape whilst hooded (after being fed unhooded). Do not get or allow the hood to get totally wet as this will cause the leather to deform. If the hood has got soaked then place on the hood block as soon as possibble to dry.

Do not put hood into pocket when out in the field (hang from a hook on belt or other place where it cant be crushed)

Do not stuff into your bag

Do not put any oil(s) onto the hood as they will soften the leather (unless the hood is made to be soft)

The hood maker will have treated the hood with a waterproof surface and any excess cleaning will take this surface off the hood.

A well looked after hood (and well made) should last you and the raptor for a good few years of use :D

Any questions just ask
