My garden is almost completely concreted. Am I going to have to dig a hole in the concrete to put a drain in or are there any other solutions? The avery will be completely covered so it will mainly be drainage for cleaning.

just put a screed down , taper it from front to back, make some channels in it to take the water ,,

I no some one who has the same floor as you and he drilled a series of 28mm holes and used them as a soak away it works for him.

Do I have to still use pea shingle with a concrete floor, I have limited experience so don't jump on me to hard, but would it be ok to just scrub the concrete rather than wash down shingle. It just seems to me that it would be easier to keep concrete clean, or is bare concrete bad for the birds talons or something?

another question....
In Emma Fords book she suggests putting wire over the levelled earth and covering it with pea gravel. ie no base.
Others suggest concrete/slabs covered by pea gravel.
My soil is very free draining, could I get away with putting the pea gravel straight on top of the soil?

the only thing if you hav bare ground under gravel are weeds/and or rodents, rats are parshal to the chick, dead rat etc

hence the wire over the ground before the pea gravel is added I presume?

Thats right mate, but also you will have problems with weeds too!

You can put down weed suppresent stuff, but its a pain in the bum and will keep pulling up with your rake.

Good idea is a screened concrete ban with drains, then pea shingle on the top that stops the mewts from sticking to the concrete and allows you to use the Gravel a little like Shavings in that you can remove the heaviest dirt and jet wash the rest regularly.

I just replaced the gravel in 4 chambers after 4 years, no big deal and they are as good as new again!

rats hav two nice big teeth at the front to chew with,if they want to get in a little bit of wire or concrete wont stop them
