As official rafflemeister for the 2008 NAFA meet, I'm calling on all forum members to help make the raffle a success. If you make equipment or know someone who does have them contact me. If you are a member of your local club please try to get them to donate some items, or PM me with a contact w/in the club. If you are coming to the meet just bring something with you. I'm doing my best to make this the best NAFA raffle ever. I'm even working on some suprises that have never been done before. If you want to help just let me know. PM me or email me at frootdog@yahoo.com. Thanks. Hope to see y'all here in November.

Where is this hotel in relation to the last meet here, is it further into town on the same road?
I can recomend the steaks in the "Big Texan" steak house, a huge 72 ouncer if you can handle it!

I've got a question pertaining to NAFA. Does NAFA ask for dues at the beginning of each year? If that's the case, if you pay later during the year, does your membership still expire at the end of the year (December 31st)? I'm asking because I paid dues last year about a couple of months before the '07 NAFA meet, but now I can no longer get onto the web site (haven't for quite a while now), and I never did recieve any Hawk Chalks. I did put in an inquirey about log in info, but have not gotten any reply back. I know NAFA is notoriously slow with things, but I'm just curious about this. I do plan on attending the meet this year in Texas, unless my mobilization for deployment gets moved up a month. So far it's still December, so I'm making plans. :)

Yes they do:-P If you pay at the NAFA meet you're only a member until it expires in Dec/Jan. In the past they supposedly sent you the Hawk Chalks, but I never received any back issues either. Stupid system:-P

Dear Krys,
I wish you all the best for your meeting, and for organising the raffle.
I am aware of a number of british falconers who will be attending, and I've heard from friends who have attended in the past of the legendary hospitality that they are met with.
As a small gesture of appreciation, the British Falconers' Club has forwarded a few items for your raffle.
Have a great meeting.
Best wishes,
Tony.

Amanda, NAFA membership runs from Jan to December. You have to be a member to attend the meet, so if you pay at the meet, your membership will expire the next month. As for receiving the HCs. If you pay your dues past March 15th, you have to pay $45 to receive the back HC issues. If you only pay the $35 fee, you will NOT receive the HCs. Hope this clears it up.

Hi Greg,
falconry clubs and organisations do come in for the occasional bit of criticism, but actually, the goodwill and friendships that develop through membership of one or more clubs with a respect for others, is one of those unmeasurable benefits that can easily be overlooked. If falconers want an introduction to others in another country, membership of a respectable club can still help (example, the Welsh Hawking Club and the German DFO have a special relationship that goes back decades:heart:).
It was a BFC member from Scotland who contacted our club office to ask if the club would donate items for your raffle for him to pass on when he joins you at the event, and of course we were pleased to do so. I'm just sorry I won't be there to buy a few tickets.
Are you happy for me to forward your e-mail address for any BFC member who may be attending?
I'm sure you and all your visitors will have the time of your life, and perhaps someone will think of us in the UK when they're half way through their 72oz steak:yawinkle:.

Tony, James managed to devour 2 of these monster steaks 3 days apart the last time we were in Amarillo!
They Stuck him on a table on a stage with a big clock behind him so we could all see how quickly he demolished them. His polaroid was added to the wall of fame.

I hope NAFA treats you with more class than they did us (Merlins Systems) last year . Merlin Systems has donated hundreds of dollars worth of kit every year to the NAFA Raffle(as we do for many falconry club functions all over the world). last year i think we donated about $500.00 worth of stuff and did not get a thank you, acknowledgment, honorable mention or even a ****you--hell they did not even respond to our emails! i suppose we will just donate more stuff to clubs that appreciate it in the future and forgo a donation to the NAFA raffle this year. Have fun in Amarillo.

Jim,
A huge portion of what you say is due in large part to the raffle organizer, as a NAFA member I would offer an apology for not myself having sent you a note, you see I won an item donated by Merlin and did not tell you how much I appreciated the equipment, an oversight on my part.
Krys does a great job of making sure everyone sends notes out to donaters and he follows up with reminders at the meets to do business with companies that donate.
Just my 2cents

Hi Jim,
your post has had me thinking back, with some trepidation, about all the raffles I have helped organise or have contributed to --- and in truth I would have to admit that, almost without exception, donors are not recognised to the extent that they should be.
I'm sure that someone will be mortified as they recognise their failure to properly thank you, much as I am while thinking about the possibility of a generous but unrecognised donor, but I'm sure it would have been an embarrassing oversight rather than deliberate rudeness.
Thankyou anyway for reminding me to give more consideration to the friends I impose on when trying to part them with items for our auctions.
Best wishes,
Tony

Jim
I feel your pain on not being recognised .. I think if we all werent moving at the speed of life and just slow down a little.. we might cover all of our bases a little better...
An apoligy after the fact and a thank you after the fact is lacking.
I am not trying to condem anyones effort here on trying to correct a situation tthat has gone south i applaud the efforts that anyone has made to this ..
Let me ask you a question.. Did you give what you gave so that you could give or did you give what you gave so that you could receive?
I feel i can ask you this question , simply because I have been in your shoes ( by the way I take a 12 D ) yours are a little tight!! but we will make due. We have donated many items to different causes over the years and have received little recognition for it.. And often times these have been friends that have ended up with the items..
When my children had won any item, we made sure we sent a note to the doner and thanked them.
If only we had a minute to spare!!!
I think everything in life is a choice..
Be happy that you are in the postion that you can give.
best to you and thanks.

Jim Hatchett
Just wanted to say thank you to Merlin Systems for donating to THIS year's NAFA meet.
THANK YOU!

Summer and her posse went out hawking with quite a few folks at the meet. On Thursday, several of us went to the local cemetary to fly a few reds on Squirrels. I don't think Summers bird understood why the Fox squirrels where so big LOL!!!! Ask her what they can do to a red tails skull when they bite it!!!

Great photos guys, looks like a super meet was had by y'all :supz:
Really wish I could have been there but I've got some saving to do as Jen and me got engaged a month ago.
Wedding planning is now in full force so if any of you fancy a visit over here to English wedding let me know, we can go hawking the day after I'm sure Jen wont mind :box:
