i can understand them doing it for sparrows, but starlings are far rom endangered. They are the most common bird i see.

Starlings might seem numerous but I think its to do with the downward trend in their numbers.

When I was a lad (Not again) I used to spend hours with a stick, string pieces of bread and a dustbin lid trying to catch house sparrows in my back yard. Once caught they were released. Must have been the hunter gatherer in me.
Did anyone else try and trap them?

Looks like from the 1st March we need to wear orange vests jump up and down, shout at the bods. Then if they stick two feathers up at us we can shoot em. Has the world gone mad!

Hey bod! I did the same!
I used to use a cammo (RED) lol wash basket!
then put some bread in the bottom and tie some string to a stick and wait in my grandads kitchen until a sparrow landed under the basket and pull the string!

I did catch quite a few considering the basket was red!

Another way was to encourage them into the greenhouse and then shut the door on them, i gave this one up quickly though becasue they started banging their heads on the glass!

funny what you do when your little and not go anything to do, none of this playstations or PC's! and that was only about 18 years ago!

I must say though the numbers of starlings do seem to have decreased over the last 5 years!

Snap Bod I did the same with one exception, I killed mine and fed them to the ferrets
I guess you were brought up whilst I was dragged up!
I must admit the decline in the songbird numbers is quite worrying but IMHO has more to do with modern farming practices amongst other things rather than hunting and renegrade kids with bin lids.
