Pictures...she is a big girl already had to beef up her anklets as she demolished the first set. Just sorting her a hood before she goes in a pen to finnish moulting as she's dropped aload of feathers. She a has a big head at least a 130 or even a 135 cobra (125 that fits a gyrkin normaly was too small!). She seems a very good imprint and with some time and patients i'm sure she'll lay she is only just 4! pluss thanks to brynn at armthorpe he's agreed to a deal on white gyr seman that is very reasonable! Top bloke. So watch this space 13/16 gyr/sakers should be on the cards.

Alright marra? Thought i'd post up some pictures from todays training with the 5/8ths. She is amazing and the most laid back falcon i think i've come accross probably helped by the endless hours the old man spends with it attached to him! She weighed 2lb 13oz today and went on the creance for the first time yesterday and comes as soon as you start swinging the lure from her very first attempt! she is bomb proof and doesnt mantle or make a noise she actually when finnished on the lure jumps to the fist without food or if your not quick enough she will woddle over and sit on your foot! The old man has done all the work with her and doing well. They suit each other perfectly and are very laid back to the point of stopping. The only issue we have is she gets travel sick when hooded! Heres a few of ted aswell whos doing fine with his retirement view.

Enjoy mate,

Chris.

This is a very nice tiercel. I had one just like him bred by Bob Crease. How old is your tiercel? Mine got the grey front as he got older. I think he was about 20 when he died.

Very pretty bird Chris. Like the grey plumage. Sounds like you bagged a bargain - all the work done & ready to go. What's the plan for her ?

The tiercel is 18 and was chris southerns for the last 15 years. He is in retirement at mine with the hope that the old boy has few donating years left in him yet. I told chris i'd put some pictures up when i could.

Just to fly her for her sake and to maybe kick her into breeding condition this year. We made good progress last breeding season but hopefuly this will make her mature abit which it seems to be doing.

you lucky dog! beautiful bird and surroundings. question: that large open ended barn in the pics, is it part of your breeding/training facilities, or just a farm-use shed? I am trying to talk the wife into letting me convert the long part of our hay barn into a winter conditioning pen, but she seems to think it should be used to store hay in the winter, looks like I'm gonna lose, AGAIN!

i mean this hypertheticaly and i don't mean to be insultive in anyway but surpluss, if i advertised surpluss harris hawks it would be jumped on from a height, how come surpluss falcons is accepted? surpluss to what? you have too manny and need to make space? why did you keep too manny? surpluss to requirement and you cannot use them? why did you keep so manny? don't take it personal mate cos thats not what i intend and shure you have birds for sale and thats fine but if like i said i had too manny harris hawks i would be slated. if you mention harris for sale it's like a sin, a bird is for life! you should have thaught of the commitment before you baught the bird! etc etc etc!

Hi Jiff,

I can understand your reasoning Jiff, but imprint falcons or guaranteed proven pairs become surplus to requirements when their breeding project no longer needs that type of falcon..i.e they're concentrating on producing different hybred types etc. These birds are going to people who want to breed them, get a clutch or two and perhaps retire the older birds. Whereas HH are passed from piller to post when they get on a bit, and certainly HH chicks(not condoning it)do not have the same monitory value as most Hybrid/ pure falcons.
Not saying it's right Jiff, just saying it like it is mate. But generally and broadly speaking breeding birds are looked after better than some flying birds....

i'm not going to get into this one fred, you have youre opinion and i have mine, but the next time i see a post from a comercial breeder telling a potential newbie harris hawker "you need to hunt the bird 8 days a week" i'll jump down he's throat:lol:
