I have made various hoods before, but found it easier to start with anglo hoods. They aren't perticularly good hoods and look rediculous on a raptors head, but they are good for teaching you how to make hoods.

The pattern you have there will need to be blocked. The block usually has a pattern with it which is the correct size for that perticular block.

I have always used dental floss to stitch, but I'm sure hood makers will get proper stuff which I am unaware of at present. It's best to mark out the stitches first with a little wheel with spikes on. Then get 2 needles and stich one one way and the other the other way. In a X pattern.

ive have made the 4 different types of hoods including a dutch hood with the hood block so im familiar with that but never one with this style of stiching ive used dental floss in the past and i was wanting to try this one with thread one my previous hoods ive used the X style the object here is to have no stiches on the outside of the hood

I'm not sure what you mean about the stitching. The only way I know is when you stitch from the inside going not quite all the way way through so the top has no visible stitching. This goes in an X then the next stitch goes along then another X and so on. The stitching will kind of look like X X X X X with the spaces in between just two normal stitches joining them up. The X stitches will be invisible as they are halfway in the leather.

I have seen some good blocked hoods glued, with no stitches.

Hi

Yes they are strong, I seam line them as well. They are glued with Tanners bond that gets stronger with age.

Hawkmaster

The glued Rufter (Dutch hood) takes about 30 mins to make and then the time it takes to dry on the block :)

If u like that.....how about these :)

Yes I love a Black hood and the other is just cool too. I am not sure I would have the panel done like that though, although the workmanship is great, the skull perfect, I feel there would be those whispers and lifted brows at the sight of it.

If I was in Africa, I would not give a toss and WOULD have it as there everyone lives and lets live!

the one with the skull and cross bones looks well cool griff i wouldent care what others think either as long as it wasent hurting the sport itself sod what people do with their eyebrows lol(they can turn them inside out for all i care) its your bird your choice.

sorry h.m thats how i am lol
