I want to know more about Little Owls, I gather they are real fun to fly and imprints are real special. The fact that they are so small worries me because if you get the weight wrong..... I know you have 2 have a good supply of small mice and check weight often etc. Any one got one or breed them???

Don't know what you consider 'little', but if you really mean little than forget the mice and have plenty supply of insects instead...

We have 4 of the little things lol. 2 are breeding, 2 are for handling/flying. 1 is so tame, and he loves any and all affection. he will fly any distance, just strong wind and the local buzzard will put him off.
the female, hasnt been so well manned and handled. she's ok weight wise.
On freezing days, we give them oz of food, just to keep both birds lvl.
The male went into an almighty strop lol, because we skinned 1 leg by accident. They love to play with bits of leather, adore mealworms every now and then, will cuddle into ure knee and are scared of loud noises. They have such characters, they cn b pretty stupid. One little owl, he got so relaxed when he was being stroked, fell off the glove and had a silly, hapy smile on lol.
They get fed whatever! Meal worms, chciks, mice, little bits of quail, rabbit, partrige etc. Worms and beetles are fun for them to catch, I took one "hunting" before, grand total of 4 beetles. In hot/watm weather, weight was not so much of a problem, just weight them once a day. In winter, we keep them at a certain weight, so we weigh them 3/4 times a day, males are worse for loosing weight quick, so I would go for a female lol. As long as u bring them in the house most of the time, even to watchtv, eat dinner etc, they stay very friendly.
I think they are wonderfull owls, but I would say I wouldnt be able to put enough time into them to keep them happy enough and friendly.

Thanks, keap the info coming, I fancied a Barny, but gather they breed worse than rabbits. Saw advert other day 'buy bird of prey and get a Barn Owl FREE' the thought still makes me sick. They are super birds but people givin them away as pets and flogin em in pet shops at £10 a time fills me with horror!!! I was told Little Owls are more fun and great to imprint, was worried cos they are so tiny and know the problems with weight that can bring, slightly worried wat the dogs would think. They know to steer clear of the other birds, but thats rather different. A friend flew a Little Owl & said it used to trot along behind her like a tiny dog when it was in the house.

they are my favourite owl, if i ever get an owl it will be one of them, and i hope i do one day.

I don't know much about them, but all i can say is go to a petshop and buy about 10 locusts, it will give it something to hunt, it sounds hilarious.

I have heard of someone with a little owl who put a light outside to attract moths then would let it out to catch the moths

Anyone know if the Glaucidium brasilianum can be so tame?
