Hello all. I will receive a female sparrowhawk, and I will imprint her.

Yet, I have a question: can sparrowhawks be flown if I will not use a hood? I ask this, because I prefer to train him withouth any hoods, and I have heard of some peoples that they enter some kind of shock if they get scared. I guess, if i will not use hood, the bird will be exposed to the shock thing???

Thankyou!
Best regards!

I personally would train it to the hood. It's better for transporting than a box as a box will take off the wing tips and make it look silly. Also I prefer not using boxes for accipiter as it increases the chances of asper.

If you imprint her well you may find that when transporting in cars or whatever you do not need a hood at all if she is steady, but have one just in case. Euro spar hoods should be very light.

It's good to let them see lots and lots during the imprint. Dogs, cars, helicopters, people, etc

I have done the same from the soonest time you can use the hood and train it to accept the hood anytime you choose. If it does then you can use it less and less, BUT you always have the choice.
