I have a male 5/8 Gyr Saker, just over a year old, he s naturally bred and parent reared.
How old would you guess him to be before he s ready to breed ?
What would be the most fertile pairing , my 5/8 male to pure gyr, pure saker, 50/50 or 5/8 female, or do they all have equall chances of breeding successfully ?
Any advise from people breeding with any of the above combos would be greatefully received.

Many thanks

Richard

One of my friends bred from a pair of 50/50 Gyr/Sakers. They really surprised him because they had eggs within one month of collection and in a strange aviary. They produced one absolutely stunning very light-coloured male, and two darker females. All survived and later on I saw the male flying...very impressive!
Somewhat mystifying though, they did not produce any fertile eggs in the next season.

Cheers Barry,
That s interesting, guess it shows you dont know what colours your going to get until they are feathered. Strange they didnt breed again ? Do you think they could have mated in the original aviary ?
Do you know what your mate is going to fly that male at ?
My 5/8 male (one year old) is nearly through moult he s gone a nice grey blue on his back with white front, brown flights.
I ll post a photo when he s finished with before and after .

Thanks
Rich
