Varmint

I would say at gyr/Sak x Pere?

Seems to have a peregrine shape head and beak but the colour and feet would suggest some Saker/Gyr, but would prob be a hybrid saker to give that sort of colour?

Prob totally wrong!

Looks to me like the head has been imposed onto the body; it doesn't sit correctly on the left part where it has been joined and the 'cloning of the join isn't that good!!!!!!!!!! and there is a distinct line across it.

These flat screens show up all sorts of things! :D
with quality software................

Just wondered what people thought.

falco cherrug altaicus

Large dark subspecies of saker found in Altai mountains only, due to geographical isolation

Possibly natural hybrid of gyr/saker

Moritz

They can be black like gyrs. I think they are natural hybrides from Sakers and Gyrs. Are they bigger then normal Sakers?

I have the answer!
I recognised the picture and looked through one of my falconry books (Falconry and birds of prey in the gulf) and there it was!
To answer your question, it is an Altai saker (Falco cherrug altaicus). It was previously thought to be a natural hybrid between the gyr falcon and the saker. It occurs in the Altai Mountains of Asia.
Hope i helped!
Jonny.

yes, didn't think many would have that book jonny!!

You sussed me out.

I'm sure it's different in dubai, I have been there and seen altai even darker with less barring than this one. But here in the uk I have seen people telling others they have an altai saker which obviously is not altai!!

Altai puts the price up conciderably and I have not seen a pure altai hear yet.

I think this is a good picture as you can see what colour is should be when it's immature, as well as when it's an adult.

I thought those were called sinjari...

OhMyGod
16-03-2005, 12:53 PM
by arabs yeah

The dark phase altai falcon is trapped around mount sinjar and smuggled to the arab countries where it is sold as a sinjari.

Unfortunately now is almost extinct

I did fancy an eagles feet on my Harris, thought that would realy make people envious. I can get the joins in the animals OK, its making the background fit together. I guess I'd do better if I actualy read some of the help files in 'photoshop' Trouble is it all gets a bit complicated with layers an things!!! How long do they take to do, an do you use a morph type program or photoshop or something. :? :?
