This is the style I have, its not metal, as some types of metal wont last long after numerouse bates. The end is a different plastic kinda thing, the guy who makes em, but a 5lb weight on the end, and chucked it of the top of a doorsomething 800 times, then he tried the metal style, after 400 chucks, the metal started showing signes of cracking. I use this style, cus its small enough for my bird, light weight and easy to clean (even on the bird!), take out/in, swap/change, use a different leash, change the swivel etc. Afra enjoyed it, as it would weight her down as much as the light weight kangaroo leather jesses I made. Top quality
Thanks to MJ Hoods for the excellent loop leashes - real snazzy too!

thanks alot finnish and hannah :)
the reason i asked was i actually just ordered my jessy making stuff from mj hoods today, the eyelets, eyeloot tool and hide i got from brian
all im waiting for now is the leather punch i ordered from ebay
and the reason i was asking for this bullet jessy was just in case i mess up the leather jessies they look a bit hard to make for me anyway, never done it before, so i have time at the mo so gonna try to make the stuff i need and get the hawk once i trained
and thought if these were easy enuff will just use these
and thanks again :)

Just remeber to get the right mesurement. For my sakret, my jesses are 1.1cm across and 18cm length. Perfect for me and the bird. For length, some people just double the width of the palm, which is what I use.
Good luck with makin your first jess, they are murder to begin with. Try and practise on rubbish leather first. Aslong as you can get 2 parralel lines, can cut down the paraell lines - ure half way there!

It makes the whole thing a lot easier if you can get a metal rule (or other piece of metal, as long as it is straight) and a roller cutter (the kind of those pizza cutters - you can actually use a sharp pizza cutter... Just draw a line with pencil, put the ruler over it, and roll the cutter once or twice!!

I use bullet jess in the field, if they fit the eyelets correctly they are quite a knack to get on and off. I use a stanley or craft knife with a steel rule to cut leather jess, but to get a real good job you need a cutting mat. They are cheap enough and you dont ruin the table  , if you cut with a bit of wood or card under the leather the knife will tend to follow the grain and you wont get an even width. They are actualy quite easy to make and any not so good ones shove in your hawk bag so you always have a spare when you drop things in the mud, water and bracken !!!! they make good fishing lines with a bit of chick to speed up the retreival of the pesky ferret too

you can get the lot complete in sets from hobby shops, great if you use different sizes. The closing tool in the set is just 2 pieces you put on each side an hit with a hammer. Not as good job as the screw down kind, but the cutter is good as they blunt, so new one every 20 odd eyelets is useful.

i think it may be the screw type tool mate, i will wait and see if its the right one
and cheers mate :)i have a scalpel somewhere in the house i was gonna use that with a metal ruler, but have a cutter in the house anyway, will try it that way
cheers

if you put a piece of scrap leather behind the piece you are cutting and dont cut through the scrap leather, it shouldnt get blunt so quickly
