hi guys,
i've been offered very cheaply an un-docked springer puppy,i've seen un-docked springers before and dont think they look too much different to the docked type, however i do know the dangers of tail damage through working tough cover, does anyone work an un-docked springer? if so have you had big problems with tail damage? i think i might take the dog on and devise some sort of tail gaurd to be fitted when working, has anyone tried this with an ammount of success? any advice would be appreciated.

Hi jiff, I know what your saying and although I've never worked a springer I use a munsterlander and she has many times been in serious rough stuff without any probs. At the price I would be inclined to take a chance.

Hi Jiff,

my Springer has a 3/4 dock, ie it has 1/4 off. Still able to see the tail when shes marking etc.
My mate has a springer undocked and it faces all cover never any problem.
However as you know from your lurcher days a tail once it opens up is very difficult to get to heal!
Just luck I suppose like dew claws on running dogs.
Great dogs though I'm really enjoy watching mine work.
