Yes you are right but the hawk is in an enclosed pen even if the clip did break she would go nowhere .If I have to block her out in the open I use a traditional leash. I had a hawk that was foreever pulling it's jessies up and wrapping them around it's leg.Using a heavy clip eliminated the problem and I have used it ever since,But only when the hawk is enclosed

No worries.......... I work with a guy who's daughter lost her eye using a springclip with an extendable dog leash whilst walking her small dog, the springclip was at fault.
Not being picky... I use one to secure the hawk to fist, they're usefull

Hi Dave,
She's looking nice and settled. I hope to be joining you in the glorious struggle before long with a diesel myself!!.
We can't lose really. If they are fairly slow in their first year we can pull the old 'three year project' explanation.
If they are doing the business by xmas, we can ask what all the fuss is about, these females are easy!!
Looking forward to starting now.
Good luck,
Nick

Andrew .There's only one thing I'm rolling in and it aint money.I like to keep em on carpet for a couple of days .It's easy on the feathers and if they do bring anything along with them it's easier to pick it up and burn it than dig up your weathering:lol:They are starting to cut the rape around here now so it will soon be time to crack on.It would be nice if our paths crossed some time this season .What are you flying.Have you got sorted out hawkwise?

Hi Steve
we've been on hold for the last couple of weeks waiting for the harvest .As soon as they cut some barley she will go free .On the up side I've started seeing some bigish coveys and a fair few phessies .This rain may slow things up a bit which I must admit is trying my patience.Of course if I had a kite:supz:

Don't want to get into a big debate about this, but I asked the Q because
I have done a week of passes to the lure with mine. Cannot see any harm done by it providing it's a very short period though. I believe it helps to get their apetite going and also it's little bit of an arobic work out for them.
Did it with my Perlin and found no negative from it.

She went free last night .I cast her off and she flew around for 5 minutes or so enjoying herself but never more than a couple of hundred yards away .She finally came back over at about 50 feet and cut at the lure before running out of steam and landing in the next field .
Tonight she was down 1/2 oz I cast her off she flew downwind turned and came back over at 70 feet and started to ring around me .She got the lure before she'd done one circuit and came down to it nicely.I couldn't be happier with her at the moment.:supz:

I once had a tiercel from Michael Moore on his first free cast,he climbed, climbed and climbed,I pulled out the lure and he just kept on climbing, suddenly he just shut up and put in several stoops intermittently corkscrewing down to his lure!!!He made a fantastic partridge hawk, unfortunately not for me,as he totally ignored mallard!

Just a quick update /
Yesterday she checked on some pigeons she spotted on the floor a field away.
Picked her up half an hr later on the floor with no kill ,So no harm done.Tonight she waited on over a questing pointer in nice fashion at about 80 feet but started tro lose height after a few minutes .Making slow but steady progress.
Pic -Took some advice from the kite boys and gave her a banana:lol:

The traditional swivel and leash system is much safer. IF you want to use a modified system. I use a trigger snap and a para cord leash. I also use SAMPO brand snap coast lock swivels for leash attachment. I change these yearly.
GO to www. themodernapprentice.com They have good explanations for the different tethering systems.
