A friend of mine phoned me to say a merlin had been taking his partridges in his rearing fields???????She was taking the heads away with her after a slight meal????????Wonder if anyone had lost a Perlin I thought?Phoned me again to tell me he was out shooting and had found her nest in the sand quarry near the vineyards???????Could,nt resist a gander so off I went! The bloody thing has reared three beautiful grey downies on a slant some 20ft from the water in the quarry basin!!!!!!

never heard of merlins doing it, but I have heard of wild spars taking the heads off young pheasant and partridge in pens.
