Yes WELCOME Ferret! There are quite a few of your countrymen here and I am sure you will bump in to them as you dig through the huge archives!

You may want to make a state, county or provincial entry here to gather up the troops as it were: http://www.falconryforum.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=180

What do you fly?

I live 10 miles south of Yorkton, we don't have any sage grouse we have lots of sharp tailed grouse, huns and ducks. I don't know anyone in Esterhazy with birds of prey, there is a guy in Debuc (about 45 mi.south of Yorkton) that breeds GxS, peregrins and gyrs I know him quite well. There are about 20 - 25 falconers in the whole province could even be less than that not 100% sure.

You will have more problems getting paperwork on your side of the border than ours. May take 3-6 months to set up but then is good for about 3 years.
Where in Canada are you wanting to hunt, what quarry are you looking for?
Sakerjack
I am just north of you

Actually I will take some time before acquiring a bird, I plan to get my first hawk in 2-3 years if everythings goes well. I don't need to be sponsored here to get a permit... But I attended to 2 classes with Carl Millier and Pierre Moilna at Falcon Environmental Services, and I have done vet stages at a large rehab center (UQROP if you know about them). Sure that if someday I travel to Saskatchewan, I will do everything I can to meet with falconers! :)

Hi There, I'm new to this sport as well and plan on getting my first bird in the next 3 to 4 years. At the moment I am doing just a lot of reading. The Canadian NAFA rep put me in touch with a local falconer. He suggested some reading and has answered a lot of my questions (very patient man!!). I would like to meet more of the Canadian falconers to get an idea of how big this community is and get an idea of what is the culture of Canadian Falconry like. Happy Hunting to all of you.
