OK
Here goes one embarrassed falconer
In the two yrs i have been in to falconry
i have never had to skin a rabbit.
A friend did it for me,when it came to make the dummy bun up
I know i could buy a dummy Bunnie,
or even drag a real rabbit around
but still doesn't get me away from the fact i can't skin em.
Is there a book or a video that shows how to skin them,
or is it something ya just learn through practice.
So come on guys and gals ( HELP ) me out here

Hi Falconer,
What I do is paunch the rabbit and then snap all of its feet and cut them off, then poke the back legs back through the rabbits jacket, holding onto both back legs in one hand and holding the skin in the other, pull the jacket away from you all the way to the head then all you have to do is poke the front legs back through the skin and chop the head off.
Hope this helps,
HH

Yep HH it really is that simple. Alternatively Falconer, unless you are going to cure your skin to save it stinking you can buy a couple at the falconry fair already cured. About £3 each. THey last a long time or until your hawk trashes it

this nis basicly a perfect description, but for the unitiated I would just add that paunching is gutting. once killed and before paunching I hold the rabbit by the head/ears slide my other hand down the body whilst squeezing frimly but gently thereby emptying the bladder and lower intestine of their contents. Then just slide your knife from the kneck, oviver the chest, down across the stomach, to the scut ( tail) in one swift movement. you will then be able to disembowel the rabbit.
hope this alol makes sens e and adds to HH's skinning description

lovin the descriptions guys, its one o those things do it once an thats you. On a different topic , anyone looked at the price fishing places charge for a mask??? Only thing i'd like to know is how do you all prefer to cure? If it's feasible stick it in brown paper , put it on the engine drive for a while then thats it!!!

Thanks for the feed back guys ( great ),
The only thing i did was gut them and chop em up as best i could, usually with a hack saw but found the blade kept clogging up.
Now i know some of you will be laughing at me but i didn't know any different
i am only on this forum to learn from my mistakes and i don't mind admitting
i have made some.
but as i said a m8 used to do it for me
and now its time i learned for myself

If you're feeding it to the bird(s), leave the skin on it, it's all good for them and it makes the cast.
I usually take off all 4 legs, then chop off the head; at the rib cage cut again then the last part of back bone, cut into 2 or 3 peices. Nothing goes to waste. The head gets cleaned right down to the skull but will put a few ounces on. Put it all in the freezer and feed as an when.

theres a ferreting website that shows how, but even better i have an airgun video, springtime pest control, that shows you. It looks easy enough, but i have never done it either.
Another thing,..the easier it is to skin...the better it will taste..true

Good on yer Bod I hope she has spread the 'gospel' to all her friends. Thnak god ( due to your tuition) she has grown up reealising that all meat does not come from a supermarket in plastic wrappings!
J
She wants to be a chef. Starts college September. Since she did her work experience at a top hotel in Nottm they gave her a weekend job as a trainee chef. She gets to cook all sorts of game and sea food and really enjoys it.

What does it taste like,
and are ya talking young or maturer rabbits
Usually the harder to skin, the older/tougher the meat. After skinning, joint it,soak over night in water with a tablespoon of vinny Mcguire in it...taste lovelly matey :supz:
