with everybody posting up pics of their new birds i figured i would as well. this is a Gyr/anatum peregrine tiercel. he looks a little bigger than normal but we shall see when i start to weigh him. he is very calm and even tempered, as anatum hybrids usually are. he looks as though he hard penned in the last day or two. hope to have him on the wing this week if all goes as planned. i will start him on young grouse and will be flying ducks as well.

the ones that i have had before, that looked like this, molt out pretty light--especially on the head. the light ones are sure a lot harder to see when they get way up there but it is a bunch easier to get game to flush under them than the black ones.

ya, i am sort of interested what he will end up flying at, i will start weighing him when he starts catching game. most of the anatum hybrids tend to be quite average flying weight type birds (around 780 to 800 for tiercels). the white gyr crosses tend to be a bit bigger and the black gyr crosses seem to often end up rather smaller but you never know how the genes are going to mix. the other birds from the same peregrine were made with black gyr semen and were noticeably smaller than the bird i decided to take though they were beautiful black hybrids.
