can anyone give a reliable design for a balloon that will take a decent size lure??? have tried various shop bought ones and they could hold a kes at most. The reason i ask is that where i like to train has great lift but is very unpredictable and i find a balloon can be put up very much more quickly than a kite. If i can get someone to put pictures on the web i will show you kites trashed by an instant dowmdraft from nowhere. any help appreciated.

Please bear in mind that my advice stems back to when I had one about 15 yrs ago!You used to be able to get them FREE! from the met office, however you need to think of several things before committing yourself to baloons. If you think kites are a hassle you aint experienced anything yet. it utook a bottle of helium to fill the thin, £45.00 a pop if I remember ,then you need to pay deposit for the botle, buy a regulator etc etc, unless you are going to refill it each time you use it you will need a bloody big she etc to keep it in flated wit nothing in the roof that could puncture it, , In any wind it becomes unstable , and in nil wind the release/ lure etc hang against the winch line,so you will have do design you release rig accordingly. sorry to be so neg ithis was just my experience

cheers for the input , the gas aint a problem , can get it almost free and should be able to keep it inflated pretty much constantly. Could it be possible to keep something like the northwoods one outside inflated? Think the frosts have past if weather is a factor. How much would it take to rip/burst??? A light poke from a branch?

We had one that got really sticky because of the heat, so it kind of "glued" together... then when we tried to put him straight it ripped easier then I was expecting... Don't know about branches poking it, or something like that, but I was pretty disapointed with that one. They come with a repair kit included, but the damage was to big...
Now we“re getting a huge zepelin (9 meters) with a crate, and we're releasing the peregrine from up there. Not useful for falconry, but for our show it's really good!
