After some rearranging of the garden I can fit a 12x10 aviary. With a freelofted bird is this enough space for it to live comfortably and would flying 3 times a week be enough for a bird kept in an aviary this size? I will probably be going for a harris as it seems the favourite beginners bird. Although saying that, I saw a male red take a rabbit last week and it was just amazing to watch, I don't know if it was the training or the species (its the first red I've seen hunting) but it hit the rabbit with amazing confidence and the kill was so clean compared to some HH kills I've seen. Like I say it could be the training as the HH I have seen hunt were by a different falconer.
Anyways, is that size ok?
Thanks in advance :)

yeah thats a fine size. Think carefully about perches etc though, arranging them differently can make the bird much more active.
i was always under the impression reds were as good as harris's to begin with.

Thanks CZ, I was going to put a high perch at the back and a perch at the front where the bars will be.
I've been getting mixed messages about redtails, bubo, so was unsure whether to start with one.

Yes Jay, the 12x10 isn't including a double door, the double door area will be 4x3. I have a garage that has been converted into 2 utility rooms, I will be using one of these as a weighing room and it can be used as somewhere warm if my bird is ever ill or anything like that.
