I have a 7/8 Pere/Barb, or should I say:-
Pere x (Pere/Barb x Pere). Bloody confusing aint it :o anyway even if I continue to put Pere to her and her progeny etc, it will never produe a pure peregrine. With regards to breeding records, does any one know
at which point the classification stops, ie 15/16 31/32 ????

That's interesting, so have I - I'm hoping to breed from her next year I was wondering the same thing - on the registration document it just says "Perex" as the species - I should think it would be the same for her offspring! Where did you get yours? Mine came from a breeder in Sussex.

Hi Leigh, A friend of mine bred her here in scotland.
I assume when you say pere x you are referring to the article 10 but what does it say on the bird reg doc? mine is listed in full.

Actually the Article 10 says Falco peregrinus & Peregrine Falcon - no mention of any parentage. The registration document does give the full listing in brackets after perex (no space). Does this mean there are inconsistencies in the wording of documentation? Does yours show any signs of Barbary - mine certainly doesn't, she looks all peregrine and flies at a fraction under 2lbs.

Leigh, mines is listed exactly as per my original post.
Like yours she looks all peregrine and flys at 2lb.2--2lb.3 but she is an imprint.

Hey, mega old post this but speaking to DEFRA the other day if you put a pure into a 7/8ths the offspring will be registered as pure!

Where do you get the notion that Barbarys are bouyant from? They have a very heavy wing loading.

I am not sure if it will ever be regarded as a pure peregrine (geneticaly)? Taking in consideration that you put a "drop of barbary blood" into the bird nobody knows if the barbary has some dominant genes over the peregrine ones? If there is a possibility of inheriting this Barbary genes in dominant way, they will always be present in the peregrines you are describing. Genetics is a very broad field and you just cannot simplify things like that. Who knows what genotype is your bird? Genotype is what she looks like from a genetick point of view.
Phenotype is "what you can see" in the bird, how it looks like. But untill you mate her with different birds that are well proved breeders, and you are sure of there genetic characteristicks you can never be sure what you have. And what characteristics of the parental generation is inherited to the F1 generation the ( next generation - suns and daughters ). That is the mistery and beauty of hybridizing. To get more resistant, fast, aggressive on kill, well mounting, easy to train etc.( whatever you are working to get.) My opinion is that if you go purifying your Pere/Barb, you are dissolving and not getting anything that would be extraordinary. If you are trying to get peregrine, than go with pure peregrine why bother and experiment with going back from where you started???? Whithout mentioning that you may never get there, the way you are doing it.
Best regards, Sokoly
