Hi!

A question:

Can anyone describe the behaviour to be expected from barnowls (in captivity) from the initial territorial behaviour up until sitting on eggs?

I have a couple of them for the secons year now, and since last week every night from about dusk to midnight the male is screetching (or whayever you might call it). As i understand is this to set its territory and is a deed prior to mating. When can i expect this to happen, and howlong would it take in generally to see the first egg?

Any help appreciated, and as you might have guessed: completely new on barnowl breeding...

Regards,
Marco

the male is the one that does all setting up and entices his mate to visit his chosen site. i thought i posted this link up before but obviously havent. here is a link to a barn owl nestcam. diego and frieda have laid six eggs and the third has just hatched. you can check out the history of these two barn owls (including prenuptial activity) have fun and enjoy.
