While walking along i saw a mole hill swell, which made me wonder why people don't feed them to hawks. I can't see why not, i could make money catching them and they don't have any of the diseases that rats do (as far as i know). So has anyone ever tried them as food? (for hawk food that is...)

my dog used to dig them up and kill them, but always had a disgusted look on her face and never tried to eat one. The other dogs would sniff at them but never touched them either!!
a lot of owls eat moles but as you say spudy, there are not easily found

You need to get yourself a Burrowing Owl CZ?
You could have the mole market cornered!

One of my FHH had one once while bowed out.
I know people who still poison them so be careful even if you catch one.

this should have been in nutrition actually. However, burrowing owls are awesome :).
I don't see how it can do any harm, all i need now is a mole trap...i have never seen a live mole in my life so i need to learn fast.
from the ones i have seen they seem to be rather flattish sort of looking (probably the ones coedhirion rolled on hahahaha.

Flew a male harris once who caught 2 in 1 season. The second time he flew off with it and ate it before i could get to him. He seemed to enjoy it. Managed to get him back but only just.
Don't they some times poison them with strychnine?

ye horrible little short eyed gits.......(no Gaz not you  pmsl)
got a couple in the garden now so will set a couple of traps. My cat likes to bring in mice, moles you name it, she gets REALLY p!sed off when i take em off her and give em to the birds.
By the way we are surrounded by fields and theres no one to put poison down before you all start shouting at me...

my old cat caught a mole once, she also caught a HARE, no **** a huge hare bigger than she was. She dragged it through the house leaving fur and blood to follow. The thing must have been 7lbs, i was very impressed and no it wasn't roadkill.
For the few people who do ever mange to hunt with owls i suppose tmoles might be a good quarry?

they do exist! the eagle owl at northern falconry (tom graham?) was filmed killing a fox, also on tv there was a barn owl self hunting, but its still been trained to hunt :). They were researching how they find voles etc using speakers.
