If you go to the Club Section of this forum you will find contact details for the South African Falconers' Association. They will be able to tell you if it is a feasible or a legal project.

these birds will NEVER catch a franclin or a rabbit.
Maybe a gecko or a rat.

And unfortunately the South African Falconry Clubs are about a million miles away.
African you have many other birds there that are much better suited to, I presume a first bird.
Tell us more about you.

I seem to have the same problem. In Africa my Black Kites are just tough to train and well there's nothing on how to train them. No tips nothing. Where to go is what's always in my mind.

I have trained Yellow Billed Kites and they are more or less the same, so is the training. You use the time tested training methods but they can be flown to the fist or lure or EVEN better to food shot in the air!
BUT GUYS FORGET HUNTING, that is not something they do well. Get a Jackal Buzzard or Short toed Eagle.

Jackal Buzzards are ace! I trained a female and apart from being the occatinal tantrum (diff glove was the reason!) can be laid back and hard workers. Mind you, are female was abit lazy till we stepped up her flight, making them longer and throwing food into the air (good fun that!)

ive only ever seen kites flown in demo's, not really equipped as a proper hunter, i think they are capable of small quarry but they are more of a scrounger if im not mistaken?

jackals are quite uncommon in this country but as it happens i actually bought one for a frien d of mine. the bird had a great set of feet on it and seemed well equipped for hunting
