Original Waller plan.

Gaz

Important point often forgotten for the pole perch is that the distance from the bottom of the button to the top of the slit on the jess needs to be exactly five inches.

Because the bird can get caught up. 8)

On the Waller you should fit a screen round the outside attached to the bottom ring.

Gaz

On the pic of the Waller(not the variation)it is 18" round, with the 6 rods 3" apart, bird cant get through,on the variation, wich is what your cmmenting on,the bird is not unattended, its for manning purposes, however,if used for normal purposes, there are rods that insert to stop the bird coming through. :finga:

on the waller the bird can damage its wings if tried to bate or could get stuck in between the wooden parts

The only bating it does is to jump from one side of the ring to the other, the flight instinct, wich makes the bird bate in the first place,is satisfied with a jump :!: The gap on the wood when used with the spacers is only 3",and the bird wont fly down to bate anyway.

Jazz

Gaz, At the CLA game fair 2 years ago I remember seeing Tommy Graham's imprint gosses on a similar idea, but to form the ring a car tyre was used instead. The jesses length didn't allow the gos to bate over the side of the tyre, only across the tyre.

Thats right, just a jump,no hanging or pumping out excessively, simple ,great perch.

I am working on different things at the minute but here it is so far.

There are more ideas I want to put into it, like the fact it can disassemble for car use in small more manageable sections making it not too bulky in a car and getting it to do the job better than how I understand others work now, by this I mean the leash tension and other small details . It should be good enough for commercial sales when I am finished.

Wightwings

looks very good Paul, what is the finish you have on that? It looks like you hav had it dipped.?

what's it made of ? Hows it made? did you have the individual items manufatured to your own design and spec?

oops sorry got carried away there but i must admit i like that.

Mainly Plastic, oh and rubber for the top! It is just rubber dipped ply now but that will change.

I just want to make something that I would be happy to sell and if that is the case it will be good enough for my birds wheather I sell them or not.

Keep us updated Paul would be interested to see the fully finished product.....stand at the fair next year then....

Hey WW are you not supposed to have that not on the leash at the bottom of that base.

Please correct me if i'am wrong,it's just when i seen Ad's bird on one that is how he had it.

Cheers Lee

Hi Lee, if you mean like on the pole with the 5" Jesses i dont know. the leash is throuh the hole in the base and then passed through a metal loop so it doesnt frey. hes on it again at the moment and as you can see i have tethered just enough to allow movement around the ring but he cannot bate off it.

He really settled and it workinhg well for him too.. Dont really want his Jesses any longer at the moment but will monitor him and see how he gets on.

cheers Lee

Thats it Chris,...check out the pics in "POLES" .
I meant to put this up after the fair,..the perch you saw with thr Red on at the fair was a poor example, the birds jesses were stretched and far too long, wich would allow a less experianced bird to hang..also the struts are normally 3" apart (although Chrises wire will do the job :finga: )so the bird cant go through(a bird will rarely "bate down"anyway, but will rather jump to the other side of the ring, thus satifying the flight instinct)..more info :?: check out Equipment-Poles... :finga:
