At the start of Phillip Glasier's Falconry and Hawking book he describes an incident where Henry VIII was saved from drowning in a bog by his falconer on a hawking trip in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Now the farm that I fly on is in the area of Hitchin and a few years ago I had to wade into a huge bog up to my arm pits in #@*% to retrieve my errant hawk from what little was left of a moorhen. Now there can't be too many bogs near Hitchin, I can almost feel the ghosts of royal falconers past!

Yup and the stature:!: :!: :) ( cost me a lot of beers etc over the years ( +loads of srteroids when I was ill, my excuse & I am sticking to it !) when folkj arrive on the train etc from overseas for falconry days and there are not sure how trom find me , I tell them to look out for a x between Heny VIII, falstahff & those in the know JRJustice , in modern clothing and none have missed me yet!:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :lol: :yawinkle:

mostly Prednisolone( can't rermember spelling but I was on so many drugs ( over 100 per day) I felt like a walking chemist. I also nearly doubled my body wieght in under 12 months!( 22 short years ago I was struggling to keep weight down to 9.5 stones as I was racing bikes- not an easy feat for a six footer) BTW had a gereat time racing twice at Kyalami in the early 80's & was treated like a king there :wink:
