This year the goal is to try to get a kes to hover , have hacked them in the past and still never seen a captive bred bird do it. had them stooping to the lure well but thats it . Without the use of a wind generator has anyone any advice as to how to encourage hovering???Should be some interesting replies.

if you look mate there is a thread about teaching a kessie how to hover and i dont think it is as hard as some people are led to beleive.

think it might be in the longwings section

My mate has a Sakerette that will only stoop vertical at the lure. Its like its on a spring, up, down, up down, facinating to watch.

Anyway, one day when I was watching him fly, my mate started swinging the lure above his head on the horizontal, the bird hung in the air flickering its wings like a wild Kessie. He will still do it for a few minutes, its awsome to see.

Try that with your Kestrel, it seems to confuse them and they just hang around where they are.

i know this won't help much but they have a kestrel at the raptor foundation that hovers. There is a wild one that comes back that they released which is almost trained :), but i'm sure the other did too.
