Dear friends,

yesterday I received the sad news that falconry has become poorer for the loss of Terry I'Anson.
Terry will be best remembered as a merlin man, and was known to me as one of the straightest talking men you could hope to meet. He always had an opinion, and it seemed to me to be generally well founded.
I'm afraid I have few details as Terry had moved to Spain some time ago, but I wished to inform as best I could the many friends he would have had, some of whom no doubt will be on this forum.

Kind regards,

Tony

What a blow Tony.
It was Terrys articles on Merlins that inspired me to take one on all those years ago.
I met him at the CLA game fair a few years ago and he told me he was moving to Spain.
Always a very well turned out old boy and i'm sure an inspiration to more than me.

Tony, Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Many of us knew Terry quiet well and this is a great blow and a real loss to Falconry.
I still read Terry's paper on Merlin's and it still makes sense.
He will be sadly missed by us all even though he left the UK many years ago. He was a Well respected Falconer in his own right.

sad news indeed Terry was a lovely chap i met him for the first time at woodhall in the early 80's and travelled to a couple of venues with him at that meet and he was great company. Also the gos he flew at the meet was a credit to him, he was an accomplished skilled falconer for sure.

Gentlemen,

thankyou for responding to my sad message.
In a funny kind of way I'm pleased to see such responses from some of the 'old guard' (I know we're not actually 'old'), while at the same time saddened that most falconers on the forum will have no idea of who Terry was --- very many forum members would not even have taken up their first hawk by the time he left for Spain.
He contributed to various aspects of falconry, both as a practitioner and as an intelligent questioner, commentator, and critic. His contribution to our understanding of breeding, hacking, and flying merlins should especially be remembered.
I hope to find a good person/s to write something appropriate for the 'Falconer', to celebrate a good man's contribution to the BFC and falconry.
Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Tony.

Tony,

I only had the pleasure of meeting Terry once in the mid 80's. When he was extremely helpful when questioned on Merlins - his enthusiam was infectious. A gentleman in the truest sense!
