Hiya,

I ws bored today, had to wait till some friends came over so i cud fly afra for them. I got out a bow perch, bout 5m away from her block, then got a creance and attached that to both block and bow perches. I swapped her leash from a 3ft 5mm black, to a 3mm, double clip leash, and clipped this into the creance (checking the creance wouldnt slip through any gaps) Then i got a tiny piece of beef, and got afra flying 5m 2/3 times for little pieces of beef, bout 1cm sq. I doubles that, to about 10m. Afra soon got the hand of this new perch, and was soon flying this distance with out any encouragment from me, and was havin a good time!

I cant put on pics I it wont let me! Please help!

After a couple hours, afra was much calmer and relaxed! I'm going to change it and make it safer I think - I'm worried that she could break it some how! I've got 4 carabia's to work with - I'll do!

Also, I got my vest offCabela's. Its pretty neat! The straps are wide, and dont hurt your shoulders, plenty of room for quarry and/or lures, double pockets (pick up pices etc) and big enough to change to your size! I've got a S/M, and fit's most people, but after a few mins pulling stuff down - it fit pretty tight!

Will try and post's pics soon!

Hi Hanna,
I use the same for my HH and will for all other futur birds. Most german falconers use it. (We have to!) There are many ways of doing it.

Here is what I use.
http://www.falknerei.de/beizjagd/indexB33.php

The text just tells how to build it but I think you can find out your self how to do it.
Use a dog screw instead of the earthanker, make sure that the bowperch is between the dogscrew and the mews or other perch.

I leave my HH out at this 24/7 but I have got netting around it. It is very good for the birds fitness especialy in moult. Keep the bath in the middle of the flying line and therefor the bird never ***** into it.
Do not use carabinas! use a swivel on the line and tie the bird to this swivel with the normal falconersknot, but check it everyday.

Cu Moritz

Thats for that everyone! Afra seems quite happy on either perch, so it does stop her getting cramp from using the same perch all the time (bugdie theory lol)I notice, she seems more relaxed on a bow perch? I will have to find out!

I will adapt my perch abit more, safer for one! The bath normally in the middle, but i hadnt cleaned nor moved it, or even put the middle perch on lol ( a well scrubbed brick)

More pics of todays flying tomorrow! The distance she does is getting longer - bout 2m every 3 days or so. So far, thing s r goin really good, just waiting for this overlay to arrive - grr! Belive it or not - I have afra flying at 1lb 10! 2oz heavier and a little less keen of course! she just seems to be enjoyin herself lol - cute!

Hi hanna
I have done somthing sim but for my red.
I have used my long time climbing experiance and used screw gates that are a bit harder to move so all helps and even people that have seen red acouple of weeks ago seam to have noticed the dif in his fitness. I am replacing the line with wire as i want the safer option as you all know any type of rope wears in the weather even climbing rope.
I never needed to bother training him from one bow to the other he is smart and did it straight away.
