What is the scope on falconry in Romania en Bulgaria? I hear Falconry is done there but I never saw stories or reports on that from people there.

Are there also Falconry centers in those countries or locations where they give flying demonstrations with birds of prey?

If so, some contacts or links to internet sites would be welcome

Arthur

Both these countries do not have falconry actually mentioned in the law as being legal or illegal, so it is a grey area. In other words "Is falconry only legal when it is mentioned in law as being so?" I do have contacts in Bulgaria which has a formal club. They are currently working on a website.

Pavel Yakimov is President of Bulgarska Asotsiatsia za Zapzvane na Grablivite Ptitisi (Bulgarian Association for Conservation of Birds of Prey) He has frequent problems with email addresses, but he was talking to me last week and gave me cherrug@abv.bg .

Pavel is a falconer and his club is a falconry club - falconry being hunting with a bird of prey. Are you in Macedonia? The Czech Meet this year is international and will have a large gathering of falconers from all over Europe including the Balkans. It would be a great place for you to make hunting contacts. Check website at http://www.sweb.cz/opocno05 If you want to contact me off-group my email address is gary1timbrell@eircom.net

I spent a year in Romania during the comunist era, a large part of this time was travelling around the country. There was plenty of song birds kept and sold in the markets, but I never saw any evidence of Falconry in any form. They had bears and wolfs going in to the villages and stock were kept in a place under the 'house' for protection. How much this country has changed I often wonder. It was a beautiful country with friendly people. As far as I could gather, most extra food caught was done by trapping, but my Romanian was and is extremely limited !!

Hello eveybody!

I am from Romania, but now I live in Spain.

In Romania, there are no falconry associations, since there the sport of falconry is not legal yet. Now they have introduces the laws in the gouvernment, and in a matter of 1 - 2 years the sport of falconry will be legal. I am not sure about the birds, since they've tell somenthing about trapping the birds, because there are no breeding centers. So, they will practice with wild-caught or eyess.

Well, for the moment I only know 2 falconers in Romania, and they are not legal, but what can you do if you love so much falconry!!! They are flying imprint goshawks, sparrowhawks, and some eagles, like aquila pomarina.

Hello Sola,
I know a falconer in Rumania that make thise lures, i can post some pics of them here. That falconer is not conecting to internet, he is a frioen of mine, and send me the lures to sell it here in Spain. right this week i need to receive another pack of lures. The price is 30 euros for a small lure, 60 euros a medium and 70 euros a large one. when he send top me the first 5 lures, i sell them all in a very shjort time, and when i shown them on falconry feries, they all like them and buy them right away. so, now u have to charge another pack of 20 lures. i don't know if he sends to england or so, i only sell his stuff here in spain.

eagle man, are u from rumania??? i am also from rumania, and i know other falconers who practice hawking in romania, with goshawks, sparrs and also a pomarina eagle.
