I don't even know if there is anyone in the country who flies a harpy. I want to know more about them, so far all i know is that they are huge, powerful and are born with a stuck up their arse. But if they are like a huge goshawk, they sound lik a LOT of fun to fly. Are they too rare?
Thanks

She's a display bird, from an american company called NEI...
I work with her for a while, but now I'm in Portugal, so no harpy for me anymore!! It was good while it lasted...

I've seen a picture of a Harpy being flown from the 70's by the guy named Jim Fowler (i think)... he was on the animal TV program Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom. That was a long time ago. Do you want to hunt sloths or monkeys? :P

I was wondering if it was possible to hunt with them. Their legs look as thick as a humans! i would be scared to go near the ******s.

They're huge. The hallux is longer than your index finger and the leg has the diameter of your wrist. Way back when, I worked with a pair of Harpies at the Ft. Worth Zoo. They laid eggs and in order to retrieve the eggs for artifical incubation the whole bird dept staff entered the enclosure and netted them. I was 14 years old and someone had the bright idea for me to hold the tiercel. Following the instructions of the bird keeper, I held the tiercel by the legs and pressed him down on the ground (on its back). The most frighting experience I've had with a bird of prey. The egg was fertile and would of hatched except it cracked during handling. A bunch of nonfalconers of course. Those birds would frequenlty catch racoons and opossums through the wire mesh. I'd find them laying on the ground with most of their fur plucked off.

Hey Bird_Dog, you've probably seen the one I have in the pic... She's Steve Martin's bird, the guy who does the bird show at the State Fair of Texas for 16 years now... She's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!
