I had a similar issue with my European Eagle Owl... I just dropped his weight until he responded... If the owl is nice and tame, which I presume it is with it being imprinted, then trust should not be an issue...

To get mine to fly, I spent more time with him, and dropped his weight. If he didn't fly, or at least jump to the fist, he didn't get fed, simple.

If you are going to drop the weight like this, you NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON HIM... make sure he doesn't become so underweight he doesn't have the energy to jump/fly... Watch for drooping wings, lack of 'bright eyes' and general fatigue...

Let me know how you get on...

i have a male, to get him properly flying to me i had to drop him to 2lb 2. he now flies at 2lb 5. but he is handreared and was taught to come to the fist from 28 days old.

from the weights i would probably assume it is a male.

Yes the feathers will moult next year, how has she managed to break them already though?

Have you got someone who can check her keel ect, a second opinion may help you decide what to do. i dont want to tell you to drop unless your sure shes still too high.

Owls have a tendancy to jump to the fist better at about 2-3ft rather than 5 inches, (this is because they are short sighted) so maybe move your hand a little further away? is she not showing any signs of being hungry? will she eat off the fist?

(sorry if i have said things you already know)

to be totally honest, i cant comment on weight management over a computer. you need to get someone to look at the bird, check it over, and see why it isnt coming. unfortunately i cant help you over here. it could be different reasons and if we say the wrong answer it may be very detrimental to the bird. have you got a mentor who could look at hte bird? or the breeder?

First the feather - yes they will moult out next year so long as you keep her tame and up the food come the end of February. Now the flying as it said before we are very reluctant to tell anyone to drop weight without seeing the bird. This is because female Bengals can be between anywhere from flying weight of 2-6 down to 1-14. Drop the 2-6 bird down to 1-14 and its dead. So when you drop weight first make sure its silly tame so you KNOW its not refusing to come because its frightened of you. I don't like to starve my birds but the owl will drop weight on one chick a day so thats the way I would go. Once its behaving itself 2 to 3 chicks should maintain that weight but check using scales. Remember that Owls jump 18 inches better than stepping on to the fist for food. So tie the leash on to the glove and try to get it jumping leash length for large bits of chick.
