Hi Guys,
I am a British ex-pat, working in Niger, in the Sahara Desert. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with these birds, as I am training one for a friend. They kind of fulfil the role that buzzards do in the UK, eating small ground game like snakes, lizards and mice.
It is currently flying on creance at 1175g.
hello and welcome to the forum. what a funny fella. i have never heard of the personally and look forward to reading more replies

I have flown one and there are loads in the old Transvaal of South Africa, it is a Short-toed Snake Eagle, the head is not always like that, it is just P-ed off in that piccie! Good hunters of Guinea fowl and Dassies, as well as the occiasional Meercat.

Don't know what sex it is...
I am trying to trap something which will be a bit more useful. There are lanners here, though they are pretty rare. Almost got a chanting Goshawk the other day, but the tether line broke and it flew off with my poor old pigeon...!

Pale Chanting Gos is the BEST bird I ever had, as far as head count is concerned.
What experience do you have with training birds?

FS I had some research last year about their food habits and growing developement.
If any of you is interesting for research of snake eagles in your own country and compare that with SE here in Croatia I am open for that!
Maybe some scientific article!
One pic for you!

Sorry guys I can't get on the forum much - internet access here is terrible!
Hey, hawkmaster, tell me more about the pale chanting gos. I just got an eyas. I must say they are the most beautiful birds I have seen here.
I'll post a pic next time.
Other than that, I have trained a Tawny eagle in the last few weeks. Flying free at 1560gm, I guess it's a male? Unfortunately there is not much game to hunt here in the desert, though if I can get a licencee to hunt gazelles with it that would be cool.
