IŽll move to a house that iŽll buy two dogs(rotweillers), iŽd like to know what can i do to make them accostumed with the birds. has anyone some experience like that?
ps.: the dog wonŽt be used for falconry, only to guard the house.

bye

i got my 11month old harris hawk 3 weeks ago & he was only use to border terriers. At 1st our boxer dog would stare & growl at him & the Harris would scream & spread his wings. The Harris Hawk takes no notice of him now but I still dont trust the dog 100%, I have started putting the dog into his cage & putting the Harris 3 feet in front hooded to try & get the dog use to the harris.

Are the Rotties pups or full grown? Make sure that you obedience train them or the safety of your hawk won't be the only thing to worry about! Knowing the personalities of some Rotweilers they probably aren't too interested in your hawk anyway. Good Luck :)

i gotta rotti about 5 now was a rescue dog we got him when he was around 2. my dog loves the bird but at first wouldnt leave her alone. what i did with her and my other 2 harris's was bring the bird in to man n have the dog around. i would make sure there is someone else around to just in case! but give the dog the freedom to sniff the bird if the bird screams at the dog( which it probably will) my dog normally whined at it but within a few hours of being with the bird both bird and dog had settled down nicely. but i would only do this 1 dog at a time!

you will have trouble trying to keep the rotti away from the bird they are very stubborn if they wanna get to something they will!!

As has already been said Rottie's are kinda stubborn if they want to get to something then they will and this can be just to sniff.

As you are getting two I presume they will be from the same litter so they will already have bonded.

Will you keep the dogs outside in kennels or as part of the family?

You will need to introduce them to the bird one at a time and then in time together. But never unsupervised much for their safety as of the birds.

Man your bird with the dogs about. Errect a high perch so the bird can be about at the dogs feeding times this will establish trust and familiarity at an important time.

Leave the feeding of the bird until much later in the training as the smell of raw meat to the dogs might be too tempting until a bond has been built..

Let the bird observe the dogs at play and at as many daily activities as possible.

Rotties playing is a fun sight to see but can be a very boisterous scene to watch so the bird needs to get used to that and all the noise that goes with it.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
