i have a little lannerette which is moulting at the minute. i go in the pen with him during feeding he still jumps to glove enough thou he is fat as anything. i spend some time in ther with him.

My reason behind this is so i dont have to redo the manning process once he is out of the moult.

i am wondering has anybody tryed this and what were the affects or benifits and any other comments would also be appreciated on this

I think its a good idea to keep contact, it means that you can catch them up for whatever reason or clean them out without them crashing round the aviary. I did it with my harris but didn't let him get too overweight as I don't think its good for them.

I keep in contact with my red Tail through out the molt. I usually will feed her on the glove one time a week and weigh her. I also will take her and jesse her up once a month and put her on perch in yard so I can clean the mews. Pretty much for the same reasons, so I don't have to re-man her completely.

Thats great i was just wondering thats all. As i have heard from some falconers that they beleive in no contact between there bird during moult as to give their birds proper rest

I moulted on the block this year - it seemed to take an age. It probably didnt really, just I got to have a close up look every day at the progress of feather growth.

Certainly helped with the reclaiming process anyway.

Because my public come in when the birds are moulting I have to fly right through it. I fly my birds high and all are well manned. The moult takes no longer than normal and I am normally done with it by half way through August. If the moult seems a bit slow then they English Clover honey on a daily basis which I often have to stop to slow it down a bit as I need them to be able to fly. Try it next year it really does work!!

Yeah - I thought about using clover honey. In then end he started dropping loads at once. Although he hasnt moulted all of his body feathers, all of his primary feathers and all but one of his train were moulted by mid august.

i am hoping my lanerette should hopefully be out of moult before christmas. he was put down late for moult as i was using him for display purposes. he is looking really well with all his new feathers can't wait to get him back out there. i just didnt want to start from scratch again with him and putting him under stress. i like to limit the amount of stress my birds incounter. Cutting down on there negitive experinces.
