my Female harris jade hasn't been eating a lot over the last couple of weeks she wont eat quail at all. she will only eat chick n even then maybe 1 or 2 a day.i add raptor essentials to every chick have been since last year. i think this all started when i took a little male out the aviary who was with her. she appears fine in herself bright, alert, flying round the aviary. she hasn't started moulting yet n she was at fat weight. shes been untouched for the last few months.

i also found today in the aviary a cast which is todays, but it is a light green colour. this is the only cast i have seen this colout the rest are normal.

Has anyone got any ideas????

A green cast is normally a sign of sour crop, although not necessarily a serious case. This may well tie in with the fact she has not been eating much as she is at a fat weight, although I'm not sure why she won't eat the quail in particular, if it is skinned (i.e. fed with no feathers on).

I had a mhh did the same during the moult, green tinge to cast and hadn't eaten anything for 5 days and still weighed 2lb 5oz so he was obviously very fat.

I would try feeding her nothing for a couple of days and then try her at the skinned quail after that.

If the cast is very green it might be worth a visit to the vet but if only a small section of green then should't be required.

yeh only half is green. i was thinking about not feedin her for a few days. i suppose if its green n shes cast it means its no longer in her! cheers mickey

oh i lied about her moultin i can just see the white tip of a tail feather coming through
