hi all,
probably gonna get shot for this but sod it:lol:,
with all this rain and gails that we seem to have nowadays, how do people keep their birds in top fit states?
i keep my goshawk in a well manned state by taking her out for walks even if its 90mph wind with ice cold rain in it but, that isn`t keeping her fit and when fine days come the bird just isn`t fit enough to hunt properly with.i do high jumps indoors when its **** weather but it doesnt beat outdoor flying to keep ya birds fit.this season hasn`t been too bad yet for the weather ive nearly always managed to get a fly in even if its only been for 20 minutes ect better than nothing but the weathers on its way!!! like to see different peoples tricks of indoor fitness, personally i think high jumps are going to be the favorite unless you have some massive indoor areana:supz:
many thanks

Sounds like your doing the right thing. Once a Goss is fit the odd days or days doesn't make that much difference. If you can stand it you can always fly her outside on a long sliding creance while its pouring with rail, she will fly through it and have to work twice as hard if her feathers are soaked. I would use the creance to stop her going into a tree and tucking herself up to the trunk while you wait in the rain!!

Out doors. I use a piece of rope about 7ft long. Clip it on the birds swivel and call it from a perch, preferably into the wind.
Dragging the rope along the ground means it has tp pump all the way to you instead of pump and glide.

sounds like you've got it working for you..........not tried the line dragging, but good resistance training.
sometimes the weather will win the 'day', and to me it's not a problem. the long run is that i want to fly my birds for many years. it's very frustrating, but within a week or two you can get your bird back to full fitness again!! keep it up and enjoy atb Rob

Last season i used rope training with my female goss in the field when weather allowed and i wasnt hunting her but on really ***** days i would do as many flights up the stairs in the house that was possible and noticed a massive difference in her fitness and responce after a week of being on the stairs good for your fitness too going up and down the stairs lol
