ever noticed how a lot of peeps wear cammo when out hawking,, whilst out with my shotgun this evening( pondering the world as you do )i wondered why? surely you wear cammo to STOP yourself being seen, so you would want your hawk to spot you from afar,, so why wear it?? plus i think its a bit tacky ,, better with a nice pair of breeks and a tattersal shirt..
Couldn't agree more, Brian. What's wrong with a decent pair of moleskin trousers? ( I'll leave the breeks to you lot over the wall! )
What I find really funny is the sight of an American deer-stalker wearing hundreds of dollars worth of the latest camo, topped off with a flourescent orange hat!

I play sneaky beaky with the hawk dog and me, the camo clothing helps me blend in whilst tip toeing in the woodland and while the bird is following on. I have had great success using this method and it brings out the little boy in you ( no MJ jokes please) If the quarry is young or not conditioned that the bells mean danger then they stick around.
I also wear the moleskins as there quiet.
I cant see any point wearing camo if flying a falcon in open ground.

atually i was gong to hood my hawk, and stealth in wearing my shooting camo to enter him. I thought that was a good idea, the rest of the time seems stupdi though i must admit, except maybe for ferreting sometimes, ferreters seem to always wear it.

i wear a camo jacket, the only reason is its hards has nails when going through brush, i've had it for years n although a little faded still good for a few years yet. pockets are a decent size to.
whats the average price for a pair of moleskins, dress code for the club say i should wear somethin like moleskins for fieldmeets.

Id agree 100% Brian, as i tell all my apprentices "Falconers are Gentlemen and Ladies and should dress and act like them".
I still get a good ribbing from certain camps for the way i dress, but who gives a .....!

i agree we should look presentable, but playing devils advocate it does give the impression to joe public that falconry like fox hunting is an upper class sport! which as all us commoners know isn't the case!!! presentable but common thats how we need to look!!lol

i would go straight to the field from school, and would ruin clothes everyday. Thats why i wore £8 jeans, i am not going to dress uncomfortably smart and worry about ruining them, or if the worst happens NOT even jumping over the stream. I will get all the way over one day i swear

I wear camo while hunting if the area requires it. By "requires" I mean in an area that the public frequents. I like to stay out of the publics eye as much as possible and with a good camo jacket on, I simply stand still and wait for people to walk by without seeing me....They are usually too busy trying to figure out where the bells are coming from......Camo jackets are also great for briar protection as they are quite thick material.

I cant understand why Moleskins are so popular - must be a traditional and elitist - like wearing a Jacket and Tie to falconers feasts and toasting to the queen, thats got a whole lot to do with falconry.....
They are **** in the brambles and soak up water like a sponge - the Americans do decent Brush trousers(Pants) look at the Filsons or Cabelas

Beware of the snides
Like everything in life there are cheap imitations.
The snides don't last very long and the pattern soon washes out.
Also the print is not as defined.

I have a very good Barbour Jacket (no don't own a Volvo). It a Hunting jacket and has very big game pockets with a drain hole, it even has a button fastener to keep the pocket flap open. I can go crashing through thorn bushes and it hasn't ripped once. Can be machine washed.
Can't remember what it is called but will post if someone is interested.
