mike, just noticed on the first pic that you'r door is a basic rectangle with t n g boards, if i were you mate i'd put a piece of 2x2 accross the center and then two diagnaly this will make the door more ridgid,as time goes by the t n g will swell and contract which may make you'r door twist out of shape, i'm no joiner mate but i have had the problem in the past, as i said before best of luck mate and enjoy

Mikey
28-04-2005, 09:30 PM
cheers jiff! Yeah,it's good bein able to stand back and admire what you've done ...i hope it's right.I've taken a lot of advice from paul, and all you guys here.Hope fully ...all put together should be a good result. And b4 the critics start, the perspex windows inside came with 't' shed and will b replaced with bars. The roof is complete( no hole for sittin in the rain) but were mews is situated she'll get all the sun and rain she wants through the bars. She'll also be sat out in the garden at every chance. The inner door has been made into a stable door(following albies example)Any way dont want to bore u all....thanks paul....i hope this gives a few begnners some more ideas

Lovely job boys and ideal for a Single bird, but watch the splinters from those wooden bars, they when smooth as a babies bum can still produce some pretty dramatic damage to your bird?

Anyone else building at the moment might like to note that plastic overflow pipe avilable from Wicks is a much better option in the long run!

Well done guys, nice job and i hope the bird appreciates the amount of effort?

Hawkmaster

Hey this is the English Riviera, the sun ALWAYS shines here . . . .

It is just the cloud cover that stuffs things up!

regarding the window bars varmint just wanted too let you know that if you go to a building support site you can buy the plastic slieves they use on the divvy bars when shuttering concrete and they are really cheap.
i think i give 35-40p per 2 metre length

Mikey
16-05-2005, 07:35 PM
cheers guys...yes the sun always shines!!!lol.Night owl...thnx 4 't' tip for bars, was worried bowt it,but it was free off cuts from timber yard so i took it.You can see some warp in the shutters but thats been fixed with diagonal struts in tanalised wood to match the feather edge(er indoors insisted it match rest of garden. In all it cost me nearly 350 squibblies.I'm glad no bad comments have been posted,(i took a great deal of advie from all on t forum, and really wanted to do it right! It's not perfect, but i'm hoping its good

Mikey

Gaz im a roofer m8 ,and was just observing your finished job on the roof .
You say the wind gets up round your end so what id do where your felt comes over the side of the roof and you,ve nailed it ?
Well get a 2' x 1' baton and nail it all round the outer side of the roof m8 ,it,ll stop the wind getting under and ripping it off m8 ,
and the felt thats left loose underneath just trim it off .
Hope you dont feel offended m8 ,i think you,ve done a cracking job .
Johnny

Johnny that must be Mikey's mews you're looking at my one is one in the thread "a new mews". Mikey lives in tropical Newton Abbot. My felt has bitumen adesive under it, its nailed under the joints, baton screwed on top, nailed on the underside around the edges with baton screwed over that, the only thing I wish I'd used 3/4 ply instead of 1/2". cheers

Is there not a sand quarry near you ? Buying direct will be the cheapest option for pea gravel.
