Three distinguished Presidents of national Clubs have died in as many weeks.
DR. GIVI CHOVOGADZE DIED LAST WEEK.
Givi had been a founder member of Saqartvelos Bazierta Asotsiatsia, the Georgian Falconer’s Association and was President for the last thirty years. He promoted, popularized and revived the centuries old Georgian falconry tradition and brought Georgia, with over 500 falconers into IAF.
Besides his perfect professional abilities (he was a doctor), he had great personal qualities and was an excellent father and friend; a great loss for his family and to World Falconry.
DOUGIE MORGANS DIED LAST WEEK
Douglas Morgans was President and a founder member of the Welsh Hawking Club. He was an all-round fieldsportsman and learned falconry with Laurent de Bastyai in the early 60's. He hawked regularly in Caithness (Scotland), but will be best remembered for his regular attendance at National and International Field meetings. He was known everywhere that falconers gathered and was held in very high esteem in Ireland, Poland, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia and retained many friendships in IAF. Dougie was a gentleman of the highest integrity and a true ambassador for falconry.
RON HARTLEY DIED TRAGICALLY
Ron Hartley died in his home in Franschoek, in the Western Cape on 5th April. A colossus in Southern African falconry, he moved to South Africa from Zimbabwe last year and had taken a full time position with the Peregrine Fund.
He was the main representative of IAF from Zimbabwe and indeed all of southern Africa. He was a teacher and at his school in Harare he introduced hundreds of boys to falconry at the appropriately named, Falcon College, where falconry was on the curriculum and was taught to selected pupils as a sport. Ron was one of the finest examples of a falconer and raptor conservationist ever to come from our ranks. His friendship and sound advice will be greatly missed. One of God's own true gentlemen and a great loss to the international falconry community.
