thanks hattie, do you know the process if i was going to make a glued dutch instead of the stitched?
ie; what sort of glue is used for it then to be wetted and turned inside out?
chris.:)
Looking good Hittie cen i ask what hood blocks you use. As mine are about 30 years old .In need of some new ones

Sakerjack has put up a thread on how to make a glued weyburn. I believe you can now get the cement glue he uses from Tandy leather in the UK.

Its a set of blocks from Falcon Fabrications. I'd love a set of rollins or similar but they are out of my price range at the moment.

When you wet the hood and turn it the right way round - how long do you soak it for? I have heard that warm soapy water is the best for this - is that right.
Great thread by the way :)

I tend just to wet the hood with warm water from the tap until it goes slightly flabby. I do, however, trust my stitching and therefore dont go for anything more elaborate when turning the right way out.
For years I was always so concerned about bursting the stitching when turning the right way out so used to soak the hoods. I have yet to have one do that, so I dont bother any more.
More photos later!

Chris a bit late perhaps but with a glued hood you do not turn the hood inside out, it is constructed the way it would sit on the block, you do not glue it inside out then soak and flip it out.. Hope I make sense?

Hello Hattie
It looks like you have pre-punched the holes for the neck strap. I'm not familiar with this. Could you explain more about how you it please?
PS. Where did you get your stitch marker? if you dont mind me asking?

Sorry Bill - just seen your post.
Yes I do prepunch the holes for the neck strap. I use a very fine needle and find if I try and punch through the leather with the needle alone it bends the needle. I have tried using thicker needles but just prefer the shorter thinner ones to sew with.
I have had that stitch marker for so long now I cant remember where I got it, it might have just been a local department store - in the sewing/knitting department.
