Dear Friends,

In Germany is it going to be forbidden to breed, sell and fly hybrids for the coming years. There is a certain good point for that, because a few
escaped hybrids are mating now with the wild Peregrine population in Western Europe. In fact in the Netherlands there is a escaped Gyr- Peregrine found on a manmade nesting site with a wild Peregrine. In the Netherlands it is forbidden to hunt with such hybrids, but you are alowed
to keep them. It is even not legal to fly them (only Goshawks and Peregrines)

Why should we create such birds ?? Is a 100% Peregrine, Lanner of Saker not good enough ?? There is even a trend in the USA to cross Harrisses with all kind of Buteo's and Accipitri by AI.

What is the use of all this ??

Robert

Rob there are many reasons to do it and many not to. This has been dealt with rather extensively in vaarious threads already, maybe one of the mods can edit and paste a link or two here.
