View Full Version : Who's online?

Greg

Why do we have the Who's online tab at the top of the page if it's not allowed to be used?
We can see who is reading a thread but are not allowed to see who is online so that we can send them a message and reasonably expect an answer. I often want to see if friends are online but am not able to access the info. If it can't be used why have it at the top of the page?

He's talking about the "who's online" tab on the TOP of the page, when you click it you get the following message;

"you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

The block thingy on the front page tells you who is on line...but it seems to have recently moved from the side to the bottom of the page.
The 'Whos online' feature was a spooky and intrusive little feature that allowed a person to not only see whos on line...but also what they were doing. A number of people felt they were being stalked...if i remember correctly. I don't remember anyone objecting to it being disabled....it was ages back.
it remains available to mods/admin...as i understand it.

Thanks Liam!

It now makes even less sense why the link at the top of the page gives me that dam message!

Where I can see a list of people on the chatline.

Scroll to the very bottom of the homepage and the members online list is there.

Speaking of buttons that don't work, anyone tried the Paypal Donation button on the homepage? That hasn't worked as long as I've been a member, I have reported it twice to the top man but it's still not working, guess he doesn't need the cash!

Yes I remember as well Rene!
It's just that dam link driving me mad.
However I didn't reasile that the bottom of the home page told me who was on line so I have learnt something! That is all I really wanted to know not what they were reading! Link does need to be removed if it's out of use! I never read the home page as a rule just skip to todays posts!

the top link works for me as im a mod...however before it was disabled alot of people used it for purposes untoward....stirring trouble even stalking the odd member lol...they knew what people were looking at who and when it even used to tell you if someone was sending a pm it was less hassle to just disable the thing!!!

The benefit will be that if members feel hounded of followed they can bring it to the teams notice.

Paul, the tracking system of 'Who's Online' has been secretly re instated, despite member objections which resulted in this facility no longer being available.....so being hounded can't be the reason.

Secretly? You sound very sure about it and obviously it could not have just been set as a default when the last upgrade took place?

BUT now you have been so kind to remind me again I will remove it for everyone too!

Thanks

I do hate starting a thread when I didn't start a thread.
I DID NOT START THIS THREAD AND I JUST DON'T CARE WHO CAN SEE WHO OR WHO IS HIDDEN!!!

Nuff'said...I plead the fifth amendment.

You could have also just sent me a link of where you are seeing this and I could try to tend to it?:D

Tut Tut!! (sigh.)
I raised the point only to challenge this comment you made on the Invisible mode thread.

The benefit will be that if members feel hounded of followed they can bring it to the teams notice.

If I'd wanted to raise it as a point in itself then I would have done so as soon as I noticed it.
Now my comment is lifted from the thread on which it was pertinent and allocated a thread in itself..which means it is taken out of context.
It doesn't do to take points out of context because then they are manipulated to assume a different meaning to that which was intended.
For instance; if I say ''I want to grab some money before we leave in order to pay my half of the bill''...and only the initial part of the phrase is copied and pasted as ''I want to grab some money'', then the meaning is altered completely. Innit!!

This is going into the twilight zone.
Now the admin are starting threads that imply a member has started it.
Not sure what is next?
Will they be replying for members on threads or better still PM'ing people on members behalfs?

Mind you by keep starting new threads it pushes others off the front page.

I have no fear of flying eggs.

Okay, I've decided to take ownership of this thread..so I've consulted with 'Thread Tools' and I appear to have the technical equipment to close it.

Thread closed by the ghost author.:yawinkle:
