After reading back on a few peoples diarys, (on the forum) i notice most people get the bird's back and start work the very next day.

Just wondering would i be doing wrong if i was to let a bird have a week or two just to settle in and get used to the perch and being tethered, and just wait till the young bird start's to feed on the food that i throw in through the food shute.(My plans are to get a harris in the future) but my question is would i be doing wrong, would the bird be more settled when manning and training begins because it's had time to get used to being tethered?

just a thought??

many thanks

karl

I think as far as stress goes, it's best to get it all over at once.
The more time it's spent on it's perch, the more time that is lost when it could be out there flying.

If you sress it out catching it up and putting furniture on it then leave it alone for 2 weeks it will get stressed out again when you start manning it , get it and start manning straight away....Graham

does it not help prevent screaming in a young harris?

Think about it logically ..if you tether it and leave it for a couple of weeks ...every time you walk past you its gonna bate away and go mad ..this will increase the chances of it injuring itself or perhaps causing some feather damage ...you also then have the problem of feeding it ...I for one would want the first meal i gave to it to be given on my glove ...If you chuck it food while its on the perch this could lead to problems later on in training ....ie carrying etc ....so my answer would be no ...hope this helps
