Quality tool Ken
It really is DD, this awl is not a small thin little needle stuck into a piece of wood, this is a well made tool and the awl makes real "Sweet" holes for easy sewing whatever stitch you use.

That is a Million dollar question? It really depends on how many I can pre book. They are costing me big $$. I have seen **** out there for like 75.00, they were a thin needle that was bent by a pair of pliers and had a **** handle usually a piece of dowling, you know those are not going to last. These are a stought awl blade that was developed for this very purpose and with normal use it will not bend or break and the C.S Osborne hardwood handle is a top quality product.
I am likely going to bring in 25-50 assorted sizes, I am working on costs now..

I would normally say the smallest but if I get making a hood it is Gos size, so a medium I suppose please?

$75 You are joking!
Hand forged curved awl blades are available to the saddlery trade in the UK at between £1.18. >> £4, (depending on size, 2" to 4") plus VAT and post! The finest is about 1mm across.
I am sure one of the 'supply anyone' leather and tools people will have them at a similar or slightly higher price.

WHERE DID I SAY WHAT I WAS GOING TO CHARGE? I said I have seen Junk out there for 75.00, Ron Rollins used to sell his for 45.00. and his are very good and he sold many. I would say go get a curved awl blade buy a proffessional handle, install it correctly and go make hoods. I have bought many curved awls tried many and I was not pleased with them. You want one designed for this purpose, I am offering them, plain and simple.
Tandy Leather sell stitch awls not curved for the purpose of the hidden stitch from 17.00-35.00 CDN.

If these are as good as Dan says, a good price for a good tool is something a few folks can appreciate.

Would there be a drawback to using a small awl to make the medium size hood? What am I missing?
Trying to decide which size!
